Anki pricing: how much does Anki cost on iPhone and computer?

AnkiMobile, the iPhone and iPad app of Anki, is a one-time purchase of $24.99 in the US App Store (Apple App Store, AnkiMobile product page). Anki Desktop, AnkiDroid and AnkiWeb cost nothing (Anki project, apps.ankiweb.net). In the German App Store the same app is listed at €29.99 (Apple App Store, AnkiMobile product page). All prices were read in the stores on 8 September 2026. This article lists the four editions with a provider page per row.

What does Anki cost on which device?

Anki has four editions, and three of them cost nothing. Anki Desktop runs free of charge on Windows, on macOS 13 and later, and on Linux (Anki project, apps.ankiweb.net). AnkiDroid for Android is listed on Google Play at the price 0 (Google Play, product page com.ichi2.anki). AnkiWeb, the sync service of the Anki project, is free according to the same page and keeps your flashcards in step across devices. The only paid edition is AnkiMobile for iPhone and iPad.Source Anki project (ankitects) (2026). In Austria AnkiMobile costs €29.99, the same as in Germany, and in Switzerland it costs CHF 20.00 (Apple, App Store product records for Austria and for Switzerland). The Swiss value is the one the Swiss store lists and is not converted into euros. AnkiMobile is a one-time purchase, not a subscription

AnkiMobile costs $24.99 as a one-time purchase in the US App Store and €29.99 in the German App Store (Apple App Store, AnkiMobile product page). The app record states in both stores that the app contains no in-app purchases, and no subscription tiers are listed (Apple App Store, AnkiMobile app record). The provider is Anki Software, LLC. For you this means: the price is paid once, not every month.Source Anki Software, LLC (2026). AnkiMobile Flashcards, product page in the US App Store (id373493387). Apple App Store, United States. apps.apple.com · in the sources list

Once bought, the app can be used on several devices in one household that share the same Apple ID, according to the description of the provider; a second device on the same Apple ID needs no second purchase. Anyone moving an existing Anki collection into another program instead of retyping it will find the route under Import flashcards.

Can you use Anki on an iPhone for free?

Not as an app: for iPhone and iPad, Anki offers only AnkiMobile, a one-time purchase of $24.99 in the US App Store (Apple App Store, AnkiMobile product page). Free of charge is AnkiWeb, which the Anki manual describes as a service that keeps your collection synchronized across devices and lets you study online (Anki manual, chapter on syncing with AnkiWeb).

An AnkiWeb account costs nothing according to the same chapter, and flashcards can be studied there online; the manual says nothing about the iPhone screen, so this article says nothing about it either. Anyone who wants the AnkiMobile app pays once, $24.99 in the US App Store or €29.99 in the German App Store, and then uses it on several devices on the same Apple ID, according to the provider (Apple App Store, AnkiMobile product page).Source Anki project (ankitects) (2026). Anki or Noji?

Anki and Noji are programs from two providers, and Noji used to be called Anki Pro (Anki project, faqs.ankiweb.net, page on similarly named apps). The documented difference is the purchase type: three of the four Anki editions cost nothing and AnkiMobile is a one-time $24.99 (Apple App Store, AnkiMobile product page); Noji names a subscription and no price (Noji, noji.io).

A subscription named Anki Pro or Anki Premium therefore does not exist at Anki: AnkiMobile is a one-time purchase, and the three other editions cost nothing. Noji offers a Premium subscription according to its own comparison page; the page names no price, so this article names none (Noji, noji.io, comparison page on Anki). Which program suits you is not decided by this article; it lists the documented facts.Source Noji (2026). AnkiPro vs Anki, comparison page of the provider Noji. noji.io. noji.io · in the sources list

Is Anki Pro the same as Anki?

No. The Anki project counts only Anki, AnkiMobile, AnkiDroid and AnkiWeb as its own programs, and its answer page states that Anki Pro and AnkiApp come from other providers (Anki project, faqs.ankiweb.net, page on similarly named apps). Anki Pro is called Noji today, and AnkiApp is called AlgoApp today. Both were developed by separate groups and are not related to the rest of the Anki ecosystem, according to the same page.

According to the same page, these apps do not work together with the Anki programs, and for flashcards created in them the page names an add-on that imports them into Anki (Anki project, faqs.ankiweb.net, page on similarly named apps). A Noji subscription has nothing to do with these prices (Noji, noji.io, comparison page on Anki): the prices in this article apply to the four editions of the Anki project, not to apps of other providers with a similar name.Source Anki project (ankitects) (2026). Why does Anki cost money on iPhone?

AnkiMobile costs money because its sales fund the work on Anki, according to the provider. Its answer page states that AnkiMobile is not a standalone app but is meant for use with the free sync service and the open-source computer version; working on those three platforms is a full-time job, and AnkiMobile funds it (Anki project, faqs.ankiweb.net, price page).

The description in the App Store says the same: sales of AnkiMobile fund the development of the computer version and the mobile version, which is why the app is priced like a computer program (Apple App Store, AnkiMobile description). The download page says it in fewer words: every purchase helps fund the development of Anki (Anki project, apps.ankiweb.net). AnkiDroid is separate: contributors develop it, and donations fund it, not the purchase price of the iPhone app (Anki project, apps.ankiweb.net).Source Anki project (ankitects) (2026). Apple App Store, United States. apps.apple.com · in the sources list

Why is the same app $24.99 in the US App Store and €29.99 in the German one?

The price is fixed per store and is not a conversion. In the US App Store the AnkiMobile product page lists $24.99, and in the German App Store the same product page lists €29.99 (Apple App Store, both product pages). The store you buy in decides which value applies to you; a converted dollar value stands on no product page. What does Anki do well, and where does the sourced answer end?

Three of the four editions cost nothing, and that is the first sourced strength: Anki Desktop, AnkiDroid and AnkiWeb ask for no money (Anki project, apps.ankiweb.net, and Google Play). The second strength is the purchase type: AnkiMobile is a one-time purchase without a subscription and without in-app purchases, usable on several devices in one household on the same Apple ID (Apple App Store, AnkiMobile app record).

The third strength is two open-source editions under two different licenses. Anki Desktop is under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 or later (LICENSE file of the repository ankitects/anki). AnkiDroid is under the GNU General Public License, version 3.0 (license field of the repository ankidroid/Anki-Android). The two licenses are not the same, and neither is documented for AnkiMobile.Source Anki project (ankitects) (2026). LICENSE, license file in the main branch of the source repository ankitects/anki. Four things this answer does not establish

First, the license of AnkiMobile is not documented. Neither the product page in the App Store nor docs.ankimobile.net nor apps.ankiweb.net makes a statement on it; the two documented licenses apply to Anki Desktop and AnkiDroid, so this article calls AnkiMobile neither open source nor proprietary.

Second, the Anki manual names no storage limit in megabytes for AnkiWeb; a megabyte figure stands there only for the self-hosted sync server. The only documented limit of the free service is a period: after 6 months without access and without a sync, AnkiWeb may delete the data of an account (Anki manual, chapter on syncing with AnkiWeb). The account itself remains, every visit and every sync resets the period, and deleted collections cannot be restored by the project.Source Anki project (ankitects) (2026). Syncing with AnkiWeb, chapter of the Anki manual with the sections on deleting unused data. Anki manual, docs.ankiweb.net. docs.ankiweb.net · in the sources list

Third, prices change; every value in this article therefore carries the date 8 September 2026. Fourth, the price says nothing about the flashcards themselves: how a flashcard keeps the reference to its source is described under Flashcard app with sources.
